1 Primary/short address 1–127 3 Active when CV29 bit5=0. CV1=0 removes the decoder from DCC mode (falls back to CV12/alternative power). Never write accidentally.
2 Vstart 0–255 Start voltage at speed step 1, as a fraction of available rail voltage — not absolute volts. CV2/5/6 together form the 3-point speed curve; only active when CV29 bit4=0.
3 Acceleration 0–255 Acceleration time; sec/step = (CV3 × 0.896) / speed steps. Exact behaviour is decoder-dependent.
4 Deceleration 0–255 Deceleration time; sec/step = (CV4 × 0.896) / speed steps. Same formula as CV3. Exact behaviour is decoder-dependent.
5 Vhigh 0–255 Voltage at maximum speed step, as a fraction of available rail voltage. Value 0 or 1 = not used. Part of the 3-point speed curve (CV29 bit4=0).
6 Vmid 0–255 Voltage at the midpoint speed step (S-curve), as a fraction of available rail voltage. Value 0 or 1 = not used. Part of the 3-point speed curve (CV29 bit4=0).
7 Version number read-only Manufacturer-defined version number. Has no meaning without the context of the specific manufacturer.
8 Manufacturer ID read-only NMRA-assigned manufacturer ID (e.g. ESU=151, Lenz=99, Zimo=145, Digitrax=161, Märklin=131). Writing CV8=8 triggers a factory reset on many decoders — this is a manufacturer convention, not an NMRA spec. Zimo uses CV8=0 for reset. Always consult your decoder manual.
17/18 Long address CV17: 192–231, CV18: 0–255 Long address 128–10239: CV17=192+(address÷256, rounded down); CV18=address mod 256. CV29 bit5=1 required. Use the calculator above.
19 Consist/traction address 0–127 + bit7 0 Bits 0–6 = consist address (0=no consist, 1–127); bit7 = direction within consist. Optional — not every decoder supports this.
29 Configuration (bit field) 0–63 Bit0: direction; bit1: FL location/14 vs 28/128 steps; bit2: alt. power (CV12); bit3: RailCom; bit4: alt. speed table CV66–95; bit5: short/long address. Use the CV29 calculator above.
